Christmas break came at the perfect time for the Walla Walla boys basketball
team. After reaching the 4A state semifinals in football, several key Blue
Devils such as Casey Waddell, Pierce Johnson, Zac Widmer and Craig Mettler
were nursing injuries. Waddell missed two games recovering from a sprained
ankle. Since coming back from the two-week break, Wa-Hi has gone 3-0 and
asserted itself into the thick of the Big Nine Conference race at 5-1, one
game behind first-place Davis.
Fifteen years ago, Jake and Troy Riddle didn't want their mom to read
them a bedtime story. They wanted a good-night skate. The Riddle brothers
have come a long way since their moonlight skates with their mother, and
their passion for being on the ice took them both to the game of hockey.

Will unlimited hydroplane racing ever make a mark on the national sports
map?
Signals point in different directions.
On the down side, the season will consist of only six races again this
year. The Columbia Cup is scheduled for July 29, with other stops at Evansville,
Ind., Madison, Ind., Detroit, Seattle and San Diego. An exhibition is scheduled
for Owensboro, Ky., in preparation for a race in 2004.

usually avoid making New Year's resolutions.
For one thing, they're too easy to break. And honestly, if you've got
real issues you need to resolve - like quitting smoking, losing weight or
paying off debts - why not jump on them now....
