Senske started 21st in the grid and finished 23rd. For the 22-year-old, the series is a step up from the Star Mazda Series she ran in the last two years. * * * Used to be when you finished playing high school baseball, the only options were playing slowpitch softball during the summer until you turned 30 - and only then could you play Men's Senior League Baseball, now Roy Hobbs League baseball, around the Tri-Cities. Since 1992, that is. Now, however, you don't have to wait long after high school graduation. The current Roy Hobbs League has dropped the minimum playing age to 21 in the hopes of gaining new blood in the league. The league had dwindled from an all-time high of eight teams to four last season. But already, another team has been added, and there is a tryout scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at Pasco High. "Everybody who tries out will make a team," said Eric Hoppe, a league official. "And if they can't make it (to the tryout), they can call us if they want to play." Teams play 18-20 games during a season that begins in June and ends in September, with possible interleague games with Wenatchee teams and exhibition games this spring against the Posse. Hoppe said the baseball-playing diehards just want to keep playing ball for as long as they can. For more information, call 628-0797. |
